Tortuguero is a national park located 52 miles (84 km) northwest of the city of Limon. Tortuguero is a major Green Sea Turtle nesting ground in Costa Rica. To get to Tortuguero you can take a 30 minute domestic flight and then take a boat that will drop you at the canal systems where all the lodges and hotels are located. The flight will give you an impressive view of the banana plantations and random views of the great rainforests of the Caribbean. The other choice is to take a bus from San Jose which takes about 2 hours and board the same boats; these canals where the boats take you are the only way to enter the tortuguero national park. The Atlantic coasts of Costa Rica are amazing natural monuments and most of them are not so commercialized which makes them inviting peaceful refuges for those who seek a tranquil trip and amazing sight seeing of tropical flora and fauna. The entire tour along the Tortuguero’ coasts takes about 4 hours, and the unforgettable experience will be trademarked by the many turtles, caiman and crocodiles that will greet you every step of the way. The park protects over 300 species of birds and mammals and is one of the most important sites for the Baula turtles to nest around the world.
