Rincon de la Vieja is an active volcano located in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica near the border with Nicaragua. Surrounding this volcano there is the Rincon de la Vieja National Park. It is one of the five volcanoes that make up the Guanacaste mountain range and has nine volcanic craters. Right now it is relatively calmed and hasn’t had a serious eruption since 1983. the national park is a beautiful sanctuary of flora and fauna and, like the rest of Costa Rica’s natural monuments this area is carefully preserved and the sightseeing will take your breath away. Here you can enjoy rain forests, cloud forests, trails, rivers and unique vegetation specially found this region. One of the main attractions is the pure water lagoon located on the south of the main crater. Rincon de la Vieja is one of the few places in Costa rica where you can admire the actual pure “Guaria Morada” our national flower, wich is a very rare purple coloured orchid. To have the full Rincon de la Vieja experience, we recommend that when hiking, you carry your sleeping bag and a mosquito net and camp on the assigned camping spots inside the park.
