My boyfriend Eric and I spent a glorious week at the Hotel Villas Sol in May. We loved it so much that we will be returning on December 7. The service people are the best. I'm HOPING that some of the great friends we met who worked in the bar and restaurants will still be there! Our hotel room balcony looked right out at beautiful Hermosa Beach and Papagayo. The restaurant and bar on the lower level (still an incredible view) were our favorite hang outs that week, although we did get up to Hotel Arenal and saw the lava seep down the volcano. The receptionist at Hotel Sol even helped us book our night at the Tabacon Resort -those hot springs ARE NOT TO BE MISSED! Just be careful on the drive from Playa Hermosa to Arenal. We were caught speeding, but fortunately we were able to pay the policeman on the spot instead of having to return and go to court. If you cross the road toward the hillside, there is a fantastic Monkey Bar that's a huge palapa. We hope it's still there as the food and drinks were great, although we heard it might be leveled so more hillside villas could be built. We also love the little bar/restaurant just a mile toward Playa Panama.. I think it was called Con Grejos or some name that means Crab. It was right on the beach with the best service and food we had outside of the Villa Sol Hotel. Of course we made lots of friends with whom we stay in contact. They, too, are waiting to hear how our stay this month will be. One of the guys we met actually returned to Villas Sol less than a month after he returned home!! I know how he felt. Costa Rica is the best - the people, the food, the sun...EVERYTHING. Thanks to all the great staff at Hotel Villas Sol for our great time in May and thanks to Tony in reservations for making our arrangements for this month so easy. I JUST CAN"T WAIT!!!
