Yes Tamarindo is a great place to start surfing. My girfriend grew up with all her brothers who surf so she is a pretty good surfer. I on the other hand am not, on our trip to Tamarindo I decided to take some lessons, which I was able to arrange during our stay at Tamarindo Vista Villas. The beach is located right across the street from the hotel where I started my lessons.

The hotel was great, I took my lessons, visited a lot of cool beaches and had a great time at their bar every night.
