Cash For Daily Insurance

Can any one tell me if it is possible to pay the daily insurance with cash, or do I need to use my credit card? Also need to know if I can pick a car up at the San Jose Airport and drop it off in Liberia?

I have been to Costa Rica and rented a few cars over the years and I have always used a credit card to pay for the insurance, I think car rental companies don't take cash, only credit cards or in a very rare occasion a debit card (which is not even recommendable to use because sometimes it takes over a month to get the money back in your account). If somebody knows better than my please chime in...
