Is it possible to get at Playa Grande with a small car or do I need a 4WD?

We rent a 4WD during our vacations to Costa Rica and you will definitely need a 4WD to get at Playa Grande because the road is not in very good conditions and if you are planning to go on rainy season it is a second reason.
