I have been in Costa Rica twice, and in both trips I stayed my first and last nights in the Gran Hotel Costa Rica, it is very close to the National theater, the gold museum and National museum, so I visited those places without taking a taxi, due to the short distance, also you can take many tours from that hotel without problems.
