I heard that you can fly from San José to Arenal area, is that true? If so how far is the airport from la Fortuna?

Yes, you are right! I saved time flying from San Jose to Arenal, the airstrip is not right in La Fortuna, it is located around 45min away and there is a shuttle service available, I suggest you to book it in advance.
