I would like to know what kind of activities are available on the area? Are there basic services as drugstores, supermarkets, taxi and banks? Is it save to walk around La Fortuna?

La Fortuna is the small downtown where the Arenal Volcano is located, you can find all of those services at the downtown. As every place around the world you might have general cares when you are walking in a place that you don't know as carry few cash, do not be along on late evenings and it is safety to get a taxi.
