Costa Rica architects have their own style, unique to this part of the world. Like all architects, they play with space and volume to design and create built elements where individuals can interact, live, work or admire. They design and create Costa Rica real estate plans based on the needs, area and type of terrain where the structure is to be built. Costa Rica architecture is very complex, especially because of weather and the fact this country is located in a volcanic region; constructions are meant to last many years in spite of heavy rainstorms and sporadic earthquakes. Architects are trained to be aware of these special building requirements; for this reason everything you would like to build or develop must be designed, checked and approved by a trained and highly experienced architect. The cost of an architect can be explained easily:

1. Preliminary evaluation and study of building plans and permits equals 0.5% of project cost.
2. Project design could equal between 1% and 2% of the project cost.
3. Project evaluation (development, housing, building) is approximately 4% of the project cost.
4. For supervision services an architect may charge about 12% of the total project cost.

These costs are approximate and may vary depending on the architect. Floor plans, designs, ground checks and any other remaining charges and specifications are to be discussed with the architect himself.

Costa Rica boasts many precious architectural jewels: La Casa Amarilla, a metal residence that has held many different entities through the years, now a national monument. The Museo Nacional is a stone castle located in the downtown area, restored about 15 years ago, it still has bullet holes in one of its towers from the 1948 civil war. Other interesting buildings are the Colegio Superior de Seņoritas, El Castillo del Moro and most of the residences in Barrio Amon. Nowadays, architecture and architects are experimenting with modern designs, using surrounding elements, incredibly detailed structures and industrial inspired buildings combined with elegance and comfort. This has mingled with European-style buildings created decades ago. Some new monuments and projects are making a statement, proving that architects are seeking inspiration in everything: music from different countries, historical facts, vegetation, images and everyday things are muses for the impressive and magnificent buildings created nowadays.
