Puntarenas Costa Rica
Puntarenas Costa Rica is a port city located on the Pacific Coast that covers an extensive amount of territory with alabaster sand beaches. It's the largest Province in our country located 75 miles from the capitol. The name of Puntarenas Costa Rica means “Sandy Point”. It is a narrow shore that is an extension of the Nicoya Peninsula only two blocks wide at its narrowest point. Puntarenas Costa Rica offers mild surf hitting the beach, which can be crossed by taking a ferry to get to other locations. To the north is an estuary with mangrove swamps, important to local wildlife. Puntarenas Costa Rica is our most important port and the perfect place to enjoy fresh seafood. Along the ocean side of town is the famous “Paseo de los Turistas”, a promenade with soda stands and accommodations. Puntarenas Costa Rica also has a lovely old church and at certain times of the year you can enjoy inexpensive theatrical plays and concerts at the “Casa de la Cultura”. Puntarenas Costa Rica is also home to numerous festivals including the annual “Festejos Populares” in November.
