Turrialba is located in the province of Cartago in Costa Rica. This town is known as the “door to the Atlantic”. Located very close to San Jose Turrialba is the land of the outstanding Turrialba Volcano. It has large areas of vegetation and panoramic views to see the three easy to spot craters. The major economic source is the agriculture of coffee sugar cane and macadamia nuts. It is also the motherland of one of Costa Rica’s best cheese: Queso Turrialba. It offers great river runs such as Pacuare and Reventazon, which are the best rivers for rafting in Costa Rica. Some of the other great attractions in Turrialba are the Monumento Nacional Guayabo which is a biological reserve and the Aquires Waterfalls, two major natural treasures of Costa Rica. Turrialba was established as a town during the 1840’s due to a huge earthquake that forced some families to start over, making it a town with a population of 80,000. There are all types of accommodations in Turrialba and the romantic scenery and weather are a perfect combination for those interested in a peaceful yet fun vacation. Turrialba is such a great natural spot that the CATIE (a famous scientific organization) has placed its headquarters in. It both takes advantage of the amazing gifts of nature of the area and works to preserve the incredible natural environment.
