When you literally translate the name Mal Pais from Spanish it means “bad country”. It is not quite clear why someone would have named this exquisite and lush land in such a way. One thing about this area is that once you get here you will have time to relax and enjoy one of the most beautiful places in the country. So far there are no Mal Pais flights, but if you don’t wish to drive all the way from San Jose and through the ferry, or down south from Nicoya and Santa Cruz in Guanacaste, you can fly into the Tambor airstrip. Tambor is a small town located in the same southern tip as Mal Pais We can arrange for a shuttle to pick you up at Tambor and drive you to your hotel and vice versa, or you can request for a rental car to wait for you at the airport..
