Volcano Lodge is located in La Fortuna, San Carlos in the northern region of Costa Rica. It can be found on the road that connects La Fortuna de San Carlos with the Arenal Lake. The lodge is 4 hours away from San Jose, approximately a 90 mile (145 km) drive. A 4x4 is not necessarily needed but is better especially during the rainy season. If you are driving to Volcano Lodge from Juan Santamaria International Airport or the San Jose area, take the Inter American Highway towards Naranjo and turn right on 142 to San Ramon which passes through Angeles Sur, Tigra, and Bosque on its way to La Fortuna. Once in La Fortuna, you will see the sign directing you to Arenal Lake, the volcano, and the hotel which is facing the Arenal Volcano.
