Location and Driving Directions
Montana de Fuego Resort & Spa is located 4 miles (6 km) south of La Fortuna, San Carlos. La Fortuna is the gateway to the Arenal Volcano. This is a typical Costa Rican rural community that has adapted itself to the tourists who flock to see the Arenal Volcano. Here you will see the small village church on the west side of the soccer field with the Arenal Volcano as a majestic backdrop. In town there are some great restaurants where you can enjoy the beautiful volcano or 3 miles (5 km) east you will find the Catarata Fortuna, a pretty waterfall that is worth the drive. If you are driving and want the route that has less traffic, take the road that goes to Puntarenas and make a right in San Ramon, go through town from east to west until you reach the hospital, here you will see a sign for Villa Blanca and Bajo Rodriguez. Keep going on that road passing La Tigra, Chachagua until you reach La Fortuna. Here turn left in the direction of the Arenal Volcano, keep driving for 5 miles and then you will find the hotel on the right side of the road. It takes about 3 ½ hours from San Jose.
To follow another route that has a little more traffic, take the same road from San Jose to Puntarenas, making a right turn in Naranjo and find the sign to Zarcero and Ciudad Quesada. Just keep going straight through these towns looking for the small community of Florencia, Santa Clara make a right turn here. Continue driving through Jabillos, La Vega and El Tanque to La Fortuna. Keep diving 5 miles beyond La Fortuna to reach the hotel. It takes around 4 hours to get there. Driving from Liberia, you proceed to Canas on the Inter-American Highway for approximately 1 ½ hours. Make a left turn on the way to Tilaran and go around Lake Arenal passing the town of Nuevo Arenal. After you get to the dam stay on the road for 5 more miles to find the hotel. It takes about 3 ½ hours to get there.
