Moana Lodge is a small, quiet and comfortable hotel with stylish tropical and African décor. The masks and artifacts are imported from Africa and help create a unique atmosphere. The lodges of the hotel are at the foot of the Mal Pais ridge, built on different levels that overlook a tropical garden and the Pacific Ocean. There are 7 guest rooms and a total of three buildings. Each room is enhanced with African art, brightly lit and very spacious. They consist of a queen sized bed and a single bed (if an extra bed is needed, this is easily accommodated). The beds have comfortable, orthopedic mattresses and each room is equipped with air conditioning or a fan, hot water shower and a room safe. At the center of the property is a fully equipped communal kitchen perfect for cooking a gourmet dinner or simply making coffee and toast. Also in the center is a free form swimming pool with a beautiful old tree above it, a great atmosphere to relax, while sipping drinks from the bar and watching the sun set on the Pacific. Once the sun drops below the horizon, the African masks create exotic shadows over the vividly lit pool creating an unforgettable ambience.
The Moana Lodge is located in the center of Mal Pais, a small village that sits on the tip of the Nicoya Peninsula on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. Mal Pais is one of the best surfing spots in Costa Rica with beaches made entirely of shells. To the north of Mal Pais is another one of the top surfing spots in Costa Rica, Santa Teresa, and to the south is the Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve. The nightlife is Mal Pais is entertaining and filled with parties, and if you prefer a quiet atmosphere there are plenty of tranquil places to go, including your room at the Moana Lodge.
During your stay at Moana Lodge, there are plenty of activities to keep you and your family busy. You can choose from horseback riding on the hilly backlands of Mal Pais, take a motorcycle or quad trip over the nearby mountains, take a boat tour to see amazing sunsets, crowds of maritime birds, sea turtles, dolphins, manta rays and whales, catch a great dinner on a fishing tour, take a full day and enjoy sport fishing, explore the underwater world scuba diving, of course go surfing, kite surfing, mountain biking, hiking, and snorkeling. Whether you choose from the above activities or to bask in the sun with a great book, you can do all of this while staying at Moana Lodge.
Location & Driving Directions
Moana Lodge is located in the village of Mal Pais. This quaint village is on the Nicoya Peninsula which is on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. Upon leaving the International Airport or San Jose get on the Pan American HWY, drive towards Puntarenas, following road signs. Upon reaching Puntarenas you take the ferry. You will enjoy a picturesque journey that lasts about 1.5 hours. The ferry will drop you in Paquera. From here you drive on to Cobano and then to Mal Pais, at the Mal Pais intersection, take a right towards Mal Pais.
