Location and Driving Directions
La Paloma Lodge is set on a steep hill overlooking the Playa Cocalito on Drake Bay, located on Osa Peninsula, Guanacaste. Drake Bay is a very small village 5 miles (8 km) from Marenco Biological Reserve, and 8 miles (13 km) from Corcovado National Park and Cano Island which dominates the ocean view from the hotel. It is highly recommended to fly directly from San Jose to Drake Bay. There is a landing strip near La Paloma Lodge. Driving to Drake Bay is only for the most adventurous and those who have the time. But if you insist, you should drive down the Interamerican Highway, past Palmar to the turnoff for Puerto Jimenez (at the town of Chacarita; it is clearly marked). Then at Rincon, turn onto the rough road leading into Drake Bay. There are mixed reports as to the viability of this road and it may not remain passable during the rainy season. The road only reaches the center of the village of Drake Bay. You’d have to find someplace secure to leave your car and either haul your bags quite a ways or get picked up in a boat.
