Guachipelin Hacienda Lodge is a century old working ranch located in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. In 1975 the land was acquired by its current owner who is a cattle and horse breeder. His family got involved in this project and today Guachipelin Hacienda has 1,700 acres (700 hectares) destined for the conservation of the tropical dry forest; 1,400 acres (550 hectares) are used as pastureland and 800 acres (325 hectares) are being reforested with species in danger of extinction, in addition to having a lodge area for guests and visitors. The rooms at Guachipelin Hacienda, Rincon de la Vieja are simple in style and they have comfortable front terraces for evening chats. The restaurant and the reception area are in a 100 year old building which used to be part of the original Guachipelin Hacienda. Lodge. Costa Rica has really given away some precious sights for this lodge: it is surrounded by lush gardens and offers exquisite views of the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano and vistas of the Pacific Ocean. At the corrals, just a few steps away from the hotel installations, you will be able to see how a real cowboy starts his day at sunrise. Guachipelin Hacienda is located at the foot of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano in Guanacaste, just a few miles northeast of Liberia. The property borders Rincon de la Vieja National Park and you will find within the hacienda thermal springs and steaming mud pots. You will be able to explore the natural beauties of the hacienda during your stay at Guachipelin Hacienda. Costa Rica owns with this lodge a place to relax peacefully, where you can either see interesting natural spots like waterfalls or you can learn about life on a tropical cattle ranch.
Location and Driving Directions
Hacienda Guachipelin is located in Guancaste near the town of Curubande. From San Jose you need to drive to Liberia on the Inter American Highway. Once in Liberia look for the intersection and head north. You will need to drive 3 miles (5 km) north on this road that goes to the Nicaraguan border. You will see on the entrance to Curubande and Rincon de la Vieja National Park on the right. The way to Curubande is a 9 mile (14 km) dirt road. From Curubande you will need to travel less than 1 mile until you reach the gate to Hacienda Guachipelin. At the gate you need to pay $2 per person for the use of this private road.
