Location and Driving Directions
You may consider a domestic flight from San Jose to Puerto Jimenez to shorten your travel time. If you are going to acquire a rental car, make sure it’s 4 wheel drive and can cross rivers. The drive takes about 7 -9 hours and boasts gorgeous scenarios of mountains and shorelines. Upon leaving the airport drive southward towards Cartago, follow the highway to San Isidro del General. Continue on to Paso Real, upon arrival head west to Palmar Norte, then south again heading for Chacarita. Follow the highway signs to Puerto Jimenez. Keep driving towards Cabo Matapalo on the road that leaves from town at the gas station "La Bomba", after about 12 miles and you will reach this town. You may want to stop and ask if the rivers are passable. On your left you will find the Cabo Matapalo entrance marked by a faded, hard to read sign. Take a left turn at the bottom of the hill and then turn right and pass through a pair of concrete pillars. Encanta La Vida lodge sits about half a mile ahead on your right side.
