San Jose to Crocodile Bay Resort, near Puerto Jimenez You head westward toward the coastline. This drive is a bit longer than your other option and the road is not always in great condition. Upon leaving San Jose drive toward Jaco, then go southward to Quepos, continue on to reach Dominical. Read the driving directions from this town below. San Jose through San Isidro to Crocodile Bay Resort This route is the shortest drive. Upon exiting San Jose head to Cartago on the Pan American HWY and drive to San Isidro de General, it should take you about 4 hours to get there. When you arrive in San Isidro you are faced with two choices: 1- Buenos Aires: Keep driving toward Buenos Aires, pass through Palmar Norte and 20 miles later turn right at Chacarita, here you should see a gas station named “Corcovado”. Take the upcoming right hand turn that leads to Puerto Jimenez. This paved road has pot holes and goes on for about 27 miles until it reaches Rincon, here the pavement ends. Drive another 20 miles passing through La Palma until you arrive at Puerto Jimenez. Do not take the road to Matapalo, instead drive eastward. You will pass by the airport, go around it and then you will see Crocodile Bay. 2 - Dominical: From San Isidro drive west towards Dominical, it should take about an hour. Follow the highway through Cortes to Palmar Norte, head on south along the Pan American HWY (read the directions above from Palmar Norte to Puerto Jimenez).
