Location and Driving Directions
The Cloud Forest Lodge is located near the Monteverde Cloud Forest. If you are traveling by bus, you may take a bus at 6:30 am or at 2:30 pm at the Puntarenas Bus Terminal in San Jose. It takes about 4 to 5 hours to get Monteverde. Once you get to Monteverde you may take a taxi to the hotel. There are also buses departing from Puntarenas to Monteverde, if you make a first stop in Puntarenas when you come to Costa Rica. If you are traveling by car from San Jose of the Juan Santamaria International Airport, take the Inter America Highway towards Puntarenas and then to Canas and Bagaces. Continue on this road and make a right before the bridge at Lagartos. At this point, you will have traveled 100 miles (160 km) from San Jose. You will travel then for 20 miles (35 km) on a dirt road all the way up to Monteverde. On the road To Monteverde, less than a mile out of Santa Elena, you will find the entrance to the Hotel Sapo Dorado. From that entrance, you need to go a block and a half to the West and ½ mile to the north. You will see sign of the hotel you cannot miss it. From the Cloud Forest Lodge it is about 4 miles (7 km) to Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. It takes about 3 to 4 hours to get there from San Jose. In wet season, a 4x4 is highly recommended.
