Location and Driving Directions
The Arenal Paraiso Hotel is located 5 miles (8 km) west of la Fortuna de San Carlos in the northern region of Costa Rica, in the province of Alajuela. You will find Paraiso located right in front of the Arenal Volcano. The hotel is also 10 miles (16 km) away from Monteverde Cloud Forest. If you are driving from San Jose, turn left (West) at the airport exit onto the Inter American Highway towards Naranjo (and San Ramón, but you aren't going all the way there), after approximately 21 miles (32 km) turn right (North) on 141 to Naranjo. On this road you will drive approximately about 31 miles (50 km), passing Zarcero, Ciudad Quesada until Florencia, where you will make a right (North) on route 35 for 6 miles (10 km), and onto the 4 West for 10 miles (17 km), to the left turn (South) onto 142 into La Fortuna which will be 6 miles (10 km) until getting to the Arenal Volcano. The total driving time is approximately 2 ˝ hours from San Jose.
Another direct and painless route (sometimes faster) is to turn left (West) at the airport exit onto the Inter American Highway towards Naranjo continue 25 miles (40 km) to the right, turn on 142 to San Ramon. Route 142 passes through Angeles Sur, Tigra, and Bosque on its way to La Fortuna.
