Casona

This house has one room with three bunk beds and four other rooms with one queen size bed in each, it is perfect for groups. Located about 500 yards from the main lodge and dining area, La Casona features a large common sitting room with a fireplace, as well as a spacious front porch with volcano view and two full bathrooms for shared use amongst the guests. All Rooms are equipped with ceiling fans.

Standard Room

Nine Standard rooms provide a rustic, yet comfortable base for your volcano viewing and rain forest activities. These rooms were originally designed and used by researchers. Each room features 2 queen size beds, as well as a private bath. These rooms are located just off the main lodge and dining area. All Rooms are equipped with ceiling fans.

Smithsonian

Some Smithsonian rooms are housed in a modern building located about 120 yards from our main lodge, reached via a 134 foot suspension bridge through a small patch rain forest. Seven of the Smithsonian rooms are located just off the main lodge and dining area. Four of these rooms feature a king-sized bed, modern private bath, and an amazing volcano view through their over-sized windows, one of these rooms also feature views of Lake Arenal. Three of these rooms feature two queen-sized beds. All Rooms are equipped with ceiling fans.

Junior Suite

These rooms have two king size beds. Right from the bed you can see the Volcano through the big windows specially built for this purpose. A mini bar, a small refrigerator and a coffee maker are part of the complementary facilities that you can find in these rooms. From the terrace you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Volcano and the Lake. All Rooms are equipped with ceiling fans.

White Hawk Villa

Crowning a hilltop some 800 meters from the lodge is the White Hawk Villa with breathtaking views of the volcano and the lake, with a capacity for 8 guests. The spacious living area is open and airy, includes satellite television and a fully-equipped master kitchen. The two large "Trogon" and "Toucan" bedrooms downstairs feature 1 queen bed and 2 singles in each. The villa also has a living room with a sofa-bed and dining room. All Rooms are equipped with ceiling fans.

The lodge used to be a volcano observatory facility for the Smithsonian institution, and now it opens its doors to anyone wishing to view this active colossus. Arenal Observatory Lodge is set on a mountain ridge by the famous and active Arenal Volcano. After 400 years of being dormant, the Arenal Volcano woke up and erupted in 1968. The volcano has been active ever since, and you can get amazing views from the lodge. This lodge in La Fortuna, is surrounded by beautiful scenery, with primary and secondary forests all around, offering the best atmosphere for a time away from all the hassle of everyday life.

Arenal Observatory Lodge Costa Rica

This lodge offers 37 rooms in a four-building spread, located 870 acres of private forest. Five of these rooms are fully equipped for disabled travelers, and most of the rooms have a stunning view of the active Arenal Volcano. All of the rooms are surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens with colorful flowers and plants to attract the wildlife. You can walk through trails, relax under the dappled shade of the trees or sit and appreciate the sights and sounds of an active volcano. This Lodge sits in a private nature reserve in the heart of one of Costa Rica's numerous natural areas. It is the rich volcanic soil that supports the primary and secondary rainforests. Waterfalls and crystalline rivers offer sparkling jungle refreshment. Location and Driving Directions

The Arenal Observatory Lodge is located in La Fortuna, San Carlos. It takes around 3 1/2 hours to get to the Lodge from San Jose. Near the area you will find the famous and active Arenal Volcano, Arenal Lake, Cerro Chato, and Cano Negro Wildlife Reserve. If you are driving from Juan Santamria International Airport or San Jose, take the Inter American Highway towards San Ramon, where you head into the hills, passing La Tigra, on the way to La Fortuna. Once you reach La Fortuna, continue towards Tabacon and Arenal National Park. Just before reaching Lake Arenal you will come to a marked turn-off for the National Park entrance.
