Location and Driving Directions
Hotel Arenal Kioro is located 10 minutes from la Fortuna in San Carlos. Arenal Kioro is located in the Northern Region of Costa Rica, at the base of the Arenal Volcano, 8 miles (13 km) West of La Fortuna de San Carlos, and 4 miles (6 km) east of Lake Arenal. It borders the Volcan Arenal National Park and its exceptionally rich biodiversity. If you are driving to Arenal Kioro from San Jose, we recommend that you take the following route through the city of San Ramon. It is the shortest route and is very scenic. If you drive to Arenal Kioro through San Ramon it will take you from 3 to 3 1/2 hours. You can take the Inter American Highway North, which passes by the International Airport, towards San Ramon, approximately 35 miles (56 km). Exit at San Ramon, and drive straight down the main road, until reaching a dead end. Turn left and go 2 blocks to the San Ramon Hospital, then right onto the road to La Fortuna. Please follow the signs for the Arenal Volcano. Following the signs to La Fortuna and Arenal, the drive will take you through a number of small towns, including Los Angeles, Balsa, Bajo Rodriguez, where there is voluntary toll. At the toll booth you will see a 45 km sign to La Fortuna. Keep driving through the towns of La Tigra, San Isidro and Chachagua until you finally reach La Fortuna. This section is a 50 mile (80 km) drive and should take about 75 to 90 minutes. Once in La Fortuna, follow the signs to the Arenal Volcano National Park for about 5 miles (8 km). We strongly recommend that you drive early in the day, before sundown. In the late afternoon and evening, you can expect heavy fog, especially during the Green Season (May-Nov).
