Getting to Manuel Antonio from San Jose is simple, just take the General Canas avenue and then head towards Orotina, past Jaco Beach, Playa Hermosa, Parrita and finally Quepos, only 15 minutes away from Manuel Antonio. On the Manuel Antonio map you can see that there’s a port and airport in Quepos: If you wish to fly into this town from San Jose you can do so and it is just a very short 15 minute flight. Manuel Antonio is usually considered a satellite town of Quepos, because this town came up after the decision to create the National Park Manuel Antonio. Around this area you can visit the Playa Espadilla and the Playa Manuel Antonio which have been awarded an Ecological Blue Flag for cleanliness and conservation efforts. If you feel up to the adventure, you can drive south to Dominical on a road that is rough and bumpy in the dry season, and almost impassable during the rainy season; however, it is worth the visit. You’ll pass by the Savegre beach, Matapalo, Baru and then Dominical, where there’s great surfing and a completely different ambiance. Beyond dominical you’ll see the Parque Nacional Ballena, an area that protects the whales and dolphins that arrive into the Costa Rican coasts.
