The Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica was established in 1971 as a national and autonomous institution of higher education dedicated to the teaching, investigation and extension of technology and related sciences to further Costa Rica’s development. This government supported university has as a mission the creation and support of human resources, investigation and extension programs to lead in the scientific and technological waves in Costa Rica with respect to ethical, humanist and environmental norms.
The Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica has different campuses: the main one is located in the outskirts of the city of Cartago, 45 minutes from San Jose Its 223 acre campus has over 475 square feet of built area where classrooms, labs, workshops and student services such as library, bookstore, cafeterias, gymnasium and administrative buildings. The city of Cartago is one of the oldest in Costa Rica and it has movie theatres, restaurants, shopping centers and the Irazu volcano nearby as well as the Cachí Dam. Another campus is located in San Carlos, in the humid tropic region. Just 65 miles away from San José. With 301 389.5 square feet of construction it includes an academic-administrative complex, classrooms, labs, library, offices, student residences, lunchroom, laundry and recreational and sport facilities. This campus offers labs with agricultural equipment as well as warehouses and facilities to dry and store grains. In San José, the facilities are located downtown and here you can obtain technical certificates in Production Supervision, Architecture and Engineering draftsmanship and you can also get a bachelor degree in Business Administration.
