Monumental Costa Rica is a communication group that strives to bring satisfaction to its different users and clients through information, entertainment and education. Radio monumental Costa Rica was founded in Tibas in 1944, but after the founder’s death, his son, continuing his legacy, decided to transfer the radio station to downtown San Jose It is at this corner in the middle of the Central Avenue that Monumental garnered it’s fame: The huge billboard outside the station reported to passer-bys last minute news events, becoming known as “the corner of the great events”. It also had a balcony where famous people would come out and salute their audience and a siren would sound whenever there was a truly spectacular event going on. These are still events talked about in families, and many of the elder Costa Ricans do remember where they were when they heard the Radio Monumental de Costa Rica’s siren during important world events. Monumental Costa Rica’s news program “Costa Rica’s Word” was not only the first, but one of the longest lasting news programs with over 30 years on the air. Radio Monumental en Costa Rica operates eight different radio stations: Radio Monumental, Radio Z FM, Radio Reloj, Punto Cinco, EXA FM, Radio Fabulosa, Radio Favorita and 670 AM.
