Periodico La Extra Costa Rica is probably the most read newspaper in the country. It’s tabloid feel and sensationalist news attracts many early morning commuters searching for “easily digestible” news… although the pictures featured in the newspaper may give more than one nausea and stomach aches. The greatest part of La Extra is dedicated to police news: reports of accidents, collisions, and nature oddities dot the pages. There’s one section most will confess is their reason to buy the pulp… Hearts in Conflict is a letter column where tear wrenching letters written in an over the top studied style, plea for help from the so called Dr. Heart, who gives them advice on getting women, dealing with unfaithful spouses and bad luck in love. Although you won't get much news from the Costa Rica Extra newspaper, you will get a glimpse of the idiosyncrasies of the tico population.
