Tres Leches is a tasty traditional Costa Rica dessert. Everyone in the country knows what it is and it certainly will make your mouth water from the first time you taste it. In Costa Rica, Tres Leches has been served for ages along with other yummy treats such as Arroz con Leche (rice pudding) and Empanadas de piña (pineapple pastries) just to mention some. Now, the following recipe of the traditional Costa Rica Tres Leches is intended to serve up to 15 people and will take approximately an hour and a half to make. For the cake mix you will need:
7 eggs whites
7 tablespoon sugar
7 tablespoon flour
2 1/2 tablespoon baking powder
Vanilla extract to taste
For the milky bathe you will need to:
Blend1 ¾ cup evaporated milk
1 ¾ cup condensed milk
1 cup eggnog
1 cup of heavy whipped cream as a luster
Beat the 7 egg whites until stiff peaks form, don’t stop beating and pour in the 7 egg yolks one by one while beating; then add slowly the sugar, flour, baking powder and vanilla extract. Keep beating the mix until the dough forms. In the meantime, pre-heath the oven at 250C. Use a square-medium size mold to pour the dough and bake it for 20 minutes: 12 minutes in the lower side and 8 minutes on the upper side until it cooks.
Blend the condense milk, evaporated milk and eggnog and pour the mixture on the cake, punk the cake in random places so the milk can penetrate inside the cake and let it soak for twenty minutes. Covered it with the whipped cream luster and enjoy a delicious Tres Leches treat!
Always keep your Tres Leches in the fridge and it will be good to eat for up to 3 days.
