Gallo Pinto is Costa Rica’s most popular dish; it is eaten all over the country no matter what time of the day is and it’s incredibly easy to make. So we have included the original Gallo Pinto recipe for you to enjoy it back home and share it with your loved ones. This recipe makes 3 to 4 servings and it will only take you 10 minutes or less to make. Make sure that you have bought your Lizano Sauce before hand for it will not taste the same without it:

To make your own Gallo Pinto you will need:

2 cups cooked long grain rice
1 cup red or black small cooked beans
1/2 cup white onions, diced
A few leaves of parsley
3 teaspoons vegetable oil
Salt
Black Pepper
Lizano Sauce ("Salsa Lizano" is a mild sauce used to cook most of the typical meals in Costa Rica)

The first thing you need to do is heat oil in a frying pan over medium high. When the oil is hot add the onions so they will become crystal like. Add beans and their gravy. Stir over low-medium heat for a minute and then add the rice, Lizano sauce (a couple of small spoons should do the trick) and the parsley. Mix well for 5 minutes and add salt to taste.

Enjoy your delicious Gallo Pinto and don’t be afraid to add your own special touch to it. Remember that Gallo Pinto is good to serve at breakfast with scrambled or fried eggs; at lunch with a steak or fried chicken or at dinner by itself: anytime of the day is good to have some Gallo Pinto.
