Location and Driving Directions

Rafiki Safari Lodge is located 18.5 miles (30 km) south of Quepos and approximately 99.5 miles (160 km) from down town San Jose. From San Jose travel west on Highway 1 (the Pan American Highway pass the Airport) drive towards San Ramon. Take the exit to Alajuela. Next take the exit right for Atenas - Los Sueños - Jaco (HWY 34). After the exit turn left and go over the over pass. Pass through the town of Atenas, Orotina and Parrita. Follow the well marked Quepos signs all the way into downtown Quepos. You will reach a gas station (last gas station before the lodge), stay straight pass a hospital and the airport. You will cross over 2 major rivers, after the last one, Savegre River, take an immediate left. Drive on, just before reaching a soccer field there is a fork in the road, take a left and follow the lodge signs.

If you are driving yourself to Rafiki Safari Lodge, the best choice is to use a 4x4 vehicle for a 2x4 might not handle the jungle roads to lodge. However if you are driving a 2x4 vehicle the hotel offers a shuttle to help you get there easily. This trip is about 3 to 5 hours from San Jose and 1 hour and a half coming from Quepos depending mostly on the roads traffic and such issues. You can also book a transfer from San Jose to Quepos and the hotel will take of getting you to the facilities and back from anywhere in the Quepos or Manuel Antonio area. There are two transfers a day. Another way is to fly from San Jose to Quepos wich takes only 25 minutes. The hotel provides suitable transportation for you upon request from the airport to the lodge and back. There are daily flights scheduled in the morning and in the afternoon.
