Location and Driving Directions

Pachira Lodge is located 5 minutes from Tortuguero National Park and right in front of the main canal across from the town of Tortuguero. Tortuguero is approximately 155 miles (250 km) northeast of San Jose and at 49 miles (79 km) north of Limon, on the Atlantic Coast of Costa Rica.

It is not possible to drive directly to Tortuguero. If you rent a car it is best to leave it in San Jose, or drive to Limon, find a public parking lot or somewhere safe, and take a boat to Tortuguero. You can leave your car at Caño Blanco Marina but you should arrange boat transport and lodging in advance.

If you are driving from the Juan Santamaria International Airport or San Jose to Limon, take the Highway 32 to Limon. You will pass Braulio Carrillo National Park and the Rainforest Aerial Tran. Continue driving through Guapiles, Siquirres, and Matina. The embarkation points are near Siquirres or Matina.

You can travel by bus to take the boat to Tortuguero, but it is more comfortable and cheaper to travel by air. You can use a domestic flight departing daily.
