Location and Driving Directions

Upon leaving the international airport, get on the Pan American Highway and head west. After reaching the town named Pumares take a right at San Ramon. Follow the road signs towards the volcano and take your next left. Take another right and you will start heading up a steep hill, you will reach a fork in the road, turn left. You will come across another fork in the road, take another left here as well. There is a shortcut that will cut about 25 minutes from your journey. Follow the volcano road signs; take a right at the fork in the road at Bajo Rodriguez. Upon reaching the bottom of the hill take a right. You will pass a tollbooth. You will begin to approach Santa Clara; you will cross over several narrow bridges. Turn left at the intersection. Keep driving on this street for approximately 30km. you will pass the town of Angeles and El Tanque. Cross through La Fortuna heading towards the volcano. In the event that you choose not to take or miss the shortcut, turn left at La Fortuna and drive across the base of the Arenal volcano. Keep going for about 18km. When you reach the end of Arenal dam, turn right onto the hanging bridges. Stay on the gravel road until you see the signs for Lost Iguana Resort. The journey should take about 2.5 hours.
