Location and Driving Directions

If you are traveling by car from San Jose, take the Inter American Highway and follow the signs to Puntarenas, then Penas Blancas or Liberia, turn off one block (50 meters) before the Lagartos Bridge. This turn off is 91 miles (147 km) from San Jose, and about 6 miles (10 km) after the Texaco gas station. Then it's 22 miles (35 km) of gravel road with great views. It takes about 3 ½ hours. In peak wet season, a 4x4 is highly recommended. From the village of Santa Elena, Heliconia Hotel is located less than a mile on the main road towards Monteverde Reserve.
