Location and Driving Directions

El Sapo Dorado is found in Monteverde, close to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve.

In order to get to Monteverde from San Jose you need to take the Inter American Highway, the same one that passes next to Juan Santamaria International Airport, and follow the signs to Puntarenas and then to Canas and Bagaces. Keep on this road and take a right before the bridge at Lagartos. At this point you will have traveled 100 miles (160 km) from San Jose. You will travel then for 20 miles (35 km) on a dirt road all the way up to Monteverde. El Sapo Dorado is less than a mile just out of Santa Elena on the road to Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve.
