Location and Driving Directions

Tamarindo, a great coastal town with a small yet convenient airstrip, provides the opportunity to take practical 45 minute flights. Tamarindo is the most accessible coastline town, an extremely popular tourist destination situated on the beautiful northern Pacific shore. If you decide to drive, an astonishing five hour drive from downtown San Jose lies before you. When renting a car to drive to Tamarindo, you can now shorten traveling time by choosing the new Tempisque river bridge route, saving approximately one hour of travel time. The Daniel Oduber International Airport (one hour drive from Tamarindo) provides comfortable charter flights, scheduled international and domestic flights available on daily basis.

If you are coming from the Juan Santamaria International Airport, take the Inter American Highway northwest to Liberia; a 135 miles trip which should take 3 - 4 hours, depending on traffic. Arriving in Liberia you will come to a traffic light on the main highway. Once there, take road 21 southwest to Belen. Turn right in Belen and continue 18 miles to Huacas which, driving, takes about half an hour. Upon arrival, turn left and follow the signs to Tamarindo (about 35 minutes).
