Location and Driving Directions

Hotel El Establo is located in Monteverde, less than a mile southeast of the village of Santa Elena. If you drive to Monteverde from San Jose you need to take the Inter American Highway, the same one that passes next to the Juan Santamaria International Airport, and follow the signs to Puntarenas and then to Canas and Bagaces. You stay on this road and just before the bridge at Lagartos take the gravel road to the right. At this point you will have traveled 100 miles (160 km) from San Jose. You will travel then for 20 more miles (35 km) on this dirt road all the way up to Monteverde. After you pass the town of Santa Elena, on the road to Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, you will find El Establo about half a mile further on the left side of the road.
