In Tamarindo you can have great fun on the beach. Tamarindo beach is a perfect laid back quality surfing area. At the northern end of Tamarindo you find Play Grande which has a world class break. Cala Luna is secluded at the end of Tamarindo Beach. Here you can have a relaxing time sitting by the beach reading or just sun tanning and admiring the beautiful ocean. For those who enjoy the night life, there are several restaurants around the town of Tamarindo that have live bands and dancing on the weekends and some week nights.
Some of the things you can do around the area of Tamarindo and all of Guanacaste, are kayaking, snorkeling, fishing, sailing, hiking, and horseback riding. You can also take an estuary tour by boat where you will be taken to the Tamarindo Wildlife Refuge which protects a large estuary of mangrove forest and tropical dry forest covering an area of almost 1,000 acres. You can also dive off the beautiful and unexplored Catalinas Island in Tamarindo where you will see a variety of species both above and below the water. If you enjoy sports fishing, Costa Rica is known as an excellent destination for world class Pacific sport fishing.
