Location and Driving Directions

There are 3 different ways to reach Manuel Antonio.
1- This route is the most direct, but a 4 wheel drive vehicle will be necessary. Leaving San Jose drive southward heading for San Pablo, travel towards Napoles and it will take you to the coast. Keep a map on hand.

2- Departing from San Jose go south on the Pan American Highway about 81 miles until you reach San Isidro del General, here turn in s southwest fashion on HWY 22. Drive on for about 16 miles to Domincal and go northwest on HWY 34 for approximately 24 miles, take a left turn to Quepos, follow the signs to Manuel Antonio which is about 3 or 4 miles out of Quepos.

3- This road is the easiest and smoothest drive. Follow Avenue 10 upon leaving San Jose all the way to Sabana Park, here the road becomes HWY 27; stay west for about 34 miles until reaching the town of Orotina. Drive through the town and turn left at HWY 34. You will travel around 11 miles over the Tarcoles River bridge. Drive down south towards Quepos for 54 miles and turn east on HWY 34. Follow the signs to Manuel Antonio which is about 3 or 4 miles out of Quepos.

*There are buses that leave from San Jose daily en route to Quepos and Manuel Antonio, at the Coca Cola bus terminal. The ride will take about 3½ hours.
