Location and Driving Directions

The Arenal Observatory Lodge is located in La Fortuna, San Carlos. It takes around 3 1/2 hours to get to the Lodge from San Jose. Near the area you will find the famous and active Arenal Volcano, Arenal Lake, Cerro Chato, and Cano Negro Wildlife Reserve.

If you are driving from Juan Santamria International Airport or San Jose, take the Inter American Highway towards San Ramon, where you head into the hills, passing La Tigra, on the way to La Fortuna. Once you reach La Fortuna, continue towards Tabacon and Arenal National Park. Just before reaching Lake Arenal you will come to a marked turn-off for the National Park entrance.
