Arenal Observatory Lodge is set on a mountain ridge by the famous and active Arenal Volcano. After 400 years of being dormant, the Arenal Volcano woke up and erupted in 1968. The volcano has been active ever since, and you can get amazing views from the lodge. This lodge in La Fortuna, is surrounded by beautiful scenery, with primary and secondary forests all around, offering the best atmosphere for a time away from all the hassle of everyday life.

This lodge offers 37 rooms in a four-building spread, located 870 acres of private forest. Five of these rooms are fully equipped for disabled travelers, and most of the rooms have a stunning view of the active Arenal Volcano. All of the rooms are surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens with colorful flowers and plants to attract the wildlife. You can walk through trails, relax under the dappled shade of the trees or sit and appreciate the sights and sounds of an active volcano. This Lodge sits in a private nature reserve in the heart of one of Costa Rica's numerous natural areas. It is the rich volcanic soil that supports the primary and secondary rainforests. Waterfalls and crystalline rivers offer sparkling jungle refreshment. A well trimmed and carefully marked trail system traverses the property and provides easy access to the breathtaking scenery and natural beauty of this volcano lodge.

If you follow one of the hiking trails from the lodge, you can find the extinct Chato Volcano crater under its enchanting emerald lagoon.
