Costa Rica Government Offices

The Costa Rica government is well established and is a democracy role model for many countries in the world. The government in Costa Rica works under three main “Branches”: Legislative, Executive and Judicial, each one is in charge of different issues and tasks. The Registro Civil de Costa Rica is part of the Executive body and along with the Tribunal Supremo de Elecciones de Costa Rica they manage inscriptions of inhabitants, deceased and newborn paperwork, identification, elections matters, marital status and issues related with population. Most of the government offices are divided into “ministries” each one is in charge of different government issues: Ministry of Health, Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports, Ministry of Public Safety and many more. Each has its own way of performing tasks and they all must comply with the requirements of the people in order to provide best services and take care of the rights and duties of each Costa Rican. One of the main government offices is the Registro Civil; Costa Rica, as explained above, uses this entity take care of population matters, stores the legal information of every citizen of Costa Rica and works together with the Tribunal Supremo de Elecciones. The Costa Rica government has many different offices that care of issues, for instance, the Ministerio de Educacion Publica: Costa Rica’s educational programs, scholarships and related matters have to be approved by this entity by all means. The Ministerio de Turismo de Costa Rica is in charge of any tourism matters: taxes, promotion, laws and statements regarding tourism. All government offices have a definite say about their policies and are managed by the Asamblea Legislativa, where the deputies created and updates laws and rights. The government is chosen by election, any legal citizen over the age of 18 is required to vote every 4 years in national elections to choose a president, vice president, deputies and county workers for the municipality of their own town. Costa Rica has managed to live in a peaceful democracy for many decades, we don’t have an army. This peaceful nation has worked hand in hand with the people for generations and the voice of the citizens is heard in every decision that has to be made regarding the stability of the country.

The judicial branch works with the OIJ (judicial investigation organization), police force and highway police, however the highway police work under the jurisdiction of the Ministerio de Obras Publicas y Transportes (MOPT) which is in charge of street and highway construction and the traffic laws in general. Most of the government offices work from Monday thru Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, except the security related offices wich work 24/7 all year long. These offices do have a lot of bureaucracy going on in their procedures yet, the most important offices have high tech equipment and resources to make things easier and much more reliable.
