Playa Conchal Costa Rica

Costa Rica’s Playa Conchal is located in Guanacaste Province on the Pacific Ocean, about 195 miles (312 km) from San Jose, 25 miles (40 km) northwest of the city of Santa Cruz, and only 1 mile (1.6 km) from Brasilito. Playa Conchal and Brasilito make up one unit separated by rock headlands of Punta Conchal. If you are driving to Playa Conchal, take the Inter-American Highway toward Liberia. It will take you around 3 hours to get to Liberia from the capitol. From there, take highway 21 in the direction of Santa Cruz and turn right in Belen following the signs to Playa Conchal or the town of Brasilito. It takes about 4 ½ hours total to get to this area of Costa Rica. You can also travel by air to Tamarindo Airport and take a 10-minute drive into town by taxi. Or go west from the Liberia International airport and travel about 45 minutes. Both drives are over good, rural roads. The name Playa Conchal was given to this white-sand beach, because it is made up of millions of crushed shells. It is one of the most exotic Costa Rican beaches, with a length of 2 ½ miles (4 km) and a width of about 160 feet (50 meters), you can find the great Paradisus all inclusive resort here.

This beach doesn’t connect to a town, unless you count the all inclusive resort Paradisus Playa Conchal, which belongs to the chain of Melia hotels. If you prefer, you can stay at Flamingo and travel to the beach during the day time. If you are snorkeling, this is one of the best places to do so. Because of its lack of small grain sand, it has the clearest water in the Pacific Ocean that you will find. When swimming out and around the rocks, you may see stingrays as well as a huge assortment of tropical fish. There is much to do in the surrounding areas. For those who enjoy a day trip, you will marvel at the closeness of some of Costa Rica’s prime national parks and wildlife refuges. You can slide along cables through the rain forest treetops high above the jungle or discover majestic active Volcanoes where natural caldrons boil tossing up magical mud for mask treatments. Others with a more adventurous appetite can enjoy adrenaline-pumping sports such as white-water rafting, deep sea fishing or scuba diving

The sun shines 11 to 12 hours a day during the dry season, which is December to April. The coast is heated with an approximate maximum temperature of 97º F (36ºC) during March and April, and an average temperature of 82º F (28º C)the rest of the year. The beach is surrounded by cattle ranches. Also, there are camping areas under the trees and water available from the local ranch hands. You can pay some of the children to watch over your gear if you leave camp. The trees are good for hanging hammocks. At the south end of this area there’s a small estuary. In that area you can find the “Garra de Leon” golf course, one of the best in Central America, with its panoramic views of the blue Pacific from various holes. The course meanders through rolling hills with sun-drenched fairways bordered by native forests where you can catch a glimps of howler monkeys. There are also lakes and ravines around the area that put a spin on how accurate an approach shot may be. The large Bermuda grass greens are manicured just like those at country clubs in the United States.
