Playa Nosara Costa Rica

Nosara is a small picturesque Costa Rican village about 3 miles from the beach of the same name. When you talk about this small town you should know that this area also includes Playa Ostional, Playa Pelada, and Playa Guiones. All of these beaches are known as Nosara Costa Rica although there is a town at Ostional as well. In the town you will find a couple of mini markets and small restaurants. The hotels and , rental properties and other lodging are closer to the beach here. There is a lot to see in this area such as; pristine forests, beautiful beaches, and nearby lush mountains. This Costa Rica beach is great for surfing, fishing, and other fun water activities. One of this area’s main attractions is the Ostional National Wildlife Refuge where thousands of endangered Pacific Olive Ridley sea turtles show up every year for the “arribada” or turtle nesting. Ostional is about a 25 minute drive from the village.

What once was a deforested vast pasture is today a reforested green area thanks to the action of locals and foreign settlers. A civic association group was established to protect the surrounding environment and the quality of life in the community. The small town of Nosara is located in Guanacaste, Costa Rica and is one of the many beautiful locations throughout the Nicoya Peninsula. Everything is so scattered and well hidden by the profusion of trees that as you approach the beach you will hardly believe that there are any traces of civilization here, let alone hotels, lodging, and restaurants. It is the perfect place to stay at a rental house with several of your surfer friends, and catch waves in a well known surf spot. Maybe sportfishing is your preference, if so then get a charter boat for the day and start reeling them in!

Ostional National Wildlife Refuge protects 613 acres (248 hectares) of land of Costa Rica. The refuge was created to protect the Olive Ridley sea turtle. These endangered turtles use the coasts of the refuge to lay their eggs. A significant proportion of the world’s Pacific Ridley turtle population nests at Ostional Wildlife Refuge. To see an “arribada” could be one of the most rewarding experiences that you will ever have. Thousands of turtles invade the beach July through December, August and September being the peak season. You will see a beach packed with turtles struggling across the sand to reach a spot where they can dig a hole and lay their eggs. The Ostional Refuge is 5 miles (8 km) north of Nosara Costa Rica.
