Flamingo Beach Costa Rica

Flamingo Beach is located in the Costa Rican province of Guanacaste, just 47 miles (76 km) southwest of the city of Liberia This top tourist destination lies between Playa Brasilito and Playa Potrero. The corridor of golden sands has plenty to offer its visitors. The Flamingo Beach Marina is a well developed small boat anchorage on the Northwest Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. The dry tropical scenery of the area contrasts with luxurious resorts and hotels, as well as other local businesses like restaurants and shops. An International Sport fishing Tournament is held in the area every year. The best time to enjoy Flamingo Beach fishing is May through August, September & October. They really good months if you are looking for yellow fin tuna that weigh over 200 pounds (91 kilograms). Besides this sport you can enjoy other water activities like snorkeling, kayaking, and jet skiing. If you want to do something a little more relaxing, you can just laze around on the soft sand and get a tan under the sun in this beautiful Costa Rican coast (just remember to avoid the sun between 10 am and 2 pm).

You can also go riding on horseback along the beach or rent an ATV. The area used to be called Playa Blanca but developers changed its name to its current one. From the Marina you can take a diving tour to Catalina Island, that are rock formations, where visibility usually ranges from 18 to 75 feet (6 to 23 meters). Be prepared to ogle sharks, snappers, devilfish, and turtles. The best time for diving around Catalina Island is December through May. A further diving tour is offered to Isla Murcielago (Bat Island) where you can appreciate coral reef underwater life and the majestic bull shark which can reach up to 15 feet (5 meters) in length. A romantic cruise on the Pacific Ocean is also an option here; contemplate a mesmerizing sunset on the deck of a yacht. This is not considered a low budget location but in Brasilito you will find more local tourists and cheaper accommodations.

Driving there is a 5 hour drive from San Jose As soon as you reach this location you will be stunned by luxurious villas and houses set amidst dry tropical vegetation. There are great views from the rocky hill. A few night clubs and bars, even hotel casinos, are open late for those who enjoy nightlife. Flamingo Beach gets crowded during the Christmas and New Years Eve holidays. The variety of night life can keep you up until the morning light. Flamingo’s safest beaches for swimming are Brasilito and Potrero. Flamingo Beach does not honor its name since you will not see any of these exotic birds here but you will see other amazing Costa Rican wildlife. If you're not staying here and are just planning a day trip, you should know that there are unguarded parking spots all along the coastal road where you can park your car for the day. There isn't much shade so be sure to use plenty of sunscreen and bring an umbrella if you can.
