Puntarenas Beach Costa Rica

This wonderful little seaport is situated in the province with the same name. Puntarenas beach lies on our gorgeous central pacific coast and functions as a main harbor. The name of this coastal region means “sandy point” in Spanish. Puntarenas beach is very close to several reserves and national parks like Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, Santa Elena Forest Reserve, Cabo Blanco Reserve and Corcovado National Park. The waters that lap the shoreline are not safe for swimming. Puntarenas beach is most famous for its delicious fresh seafood meals and Paseo de los Turistas, which is a colorful boardwalk where people sell eclectic items, handicrafts and souvenirs. During the months of February, March, July and November visitors can enjoy and partake in the carnival celebrations that honor different saints or special occasions.
