| La Marta Biological Reserve is a large property, that was dedicated to agricultural and cattle breeding activities one hundred years ago. It is located one hour from downtown Turrialba in a small valley called Pejibaye. Due to its enormous biodiversity and history, it is one of the most studied reserves these days. In the La Marta Reserve there are a number of different hiking paths, ranging in intensity from low to moderate. The tour guide, who is knowledgeable of the history and nature of this area, will take hikers on an informative scenic 4-hour hike on the Helecho Azul trail. The helecho azul is a blue fern that only grows in a few places in Costa Rica. Additionally, hikers will enjoy a special lunch while resting in a scenic area by the water. Finally, after the second hike, we suggest taking a nice refreshing dip in the Gato and Marta, the rivers that pass through the whole reserve. |
