Birdwatching Tour

Enjoy the cool dawn air of the cloud forest surrounding Villa Blanca, along with its gentle sloping pastures, where you will have the opportunity to spot a variety of over 300 recorded species, including certain endemic birds, such as the Orange-bellied Trogon (Trogon aurantiiventris), Keel-billed Toucan (toucan pico iris), and many other indigenous species common to the area. With approximately 850 recorded bird species in Costa Rica, the country boasts one-tenth of the species of the world's total bird population. More than 630 are resident species; the others are travelers who fly in for the winter. Birds that have all but disappeared in other areas still find tenuous safety in some protected areas of Costa Rica, though many species face extinction from continued deforestation. The nation offers hope for such rare jewels of the bird world as the Quetzal and the Scarlet Macaw, now both protected in National Parks & Nature Reserves.
