Begin your journey driving by "El Agricultor" monument and the Juan Santamaria International Airport. The city of Alajuela proudly displays the "Juan Santamaria" monument. Not far away is "Los Mangos" park and the old military headquarters which has been transformed into a museum and technical school. Begin your ascent to the national park where you will relax and enjoy coffee accompanied by a delicious tropical breakfast. You will feel a change in temperature and begin to see lush vegetation of the cloud forest of Poás Volcano. On a clear day the view of the main crater is admired by all visitors, with its diameter considered one of the widest in the world. Enjoy a quick hike on a trail which leads us to the Botos Lagoon, where many different ecosystems exist and many species of flora and fauna can be observed. After leaving the National Park you will observe some dairy farms. As you continue towards the Caribbean zone, stop to discover La Paz Waterfall Gardens, a spectacular Nature Park. You will see one of the largest enclosed butterfly observatories in the world. After lunch, continue on to Sarapiquí, once you arrive at Puerto Viejo, you will enjoy a relaxing boat ride. You will see monkeys, iguanas, crocodiles and birds. Before returning to San Jose you will drive through the unforgettable rainforest of Braulio Carrillo National Park.
