The Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge is considered one of the richest sites on the continent for the observation of birds. Besides an abundance of birds, Cano Negro is also a refuge for many other animals like: sloth, three types of monkeys, caiman, lizards, bats, and a variety of native wetland flora. The tour to this beautiful region, leaves from La Fortuna, driving to Los Chiles, a rustic town only 3 miles from the Nicaraguan border. Here you take a boat down to Rio Frio for about three hours. The professional guide will explain each one of the plantations that you will see on the way, as well as the flora and fauna of the region. |
